Europe 2018 – Budapest Day 2
Today was a sightseeing day. After breakfast we took a metro and a bus north to Aquincum Museum. Acuincum was the capital of the Roman province of Pannonium from the mid-1st century until this part of the empire fell to the Huns in AD 433. At its peak the city had a population of about 40,000 and was situated near the Roman garrison, which had 6,000 Legions. The museum tells the story of the city and houses thousands of artifacts (several million artifacts have been excavated in the last 150 years.) Many building foundations have been restored.

From the museum we took a train and tram to the Buda Castle area and walked up the hill. The castle houses the National Art Museum and the National History Museum. We toured both museums. Late in the afternoon we walked to Matthias Church to view the Danube and Parliament in the afternoon sun. The picture gallery contains sights of the day.

We ended the day shopping for groceries, eating dinner in, and doing laundry.
