Europe 2018 – Budapest Day 1
Our Airbnb is on the third floor of an old apartment building. The building shows the wear of may years of neglect, but the apartment is completely remodeled and fresh.

This morning we fixed breakfast at the apartment and headed for the metro station where we purchased metro and train tickets to get us to the suburban town of Szentendre.

The town is filled with shops selling all the things tourists like to buy. We had no desire to buy more stuff, so we just walked the streets and enjoyed the sunny day.

The wine museum was really just a tasting room, but the Marzipan Museum was interesting. The museum has a collection of sculptures all made of marzipan. It’s kinda kitschy, but fun.

We enjoyed lunch at an outdoor restaurant, Beth wanted to try real Hungarian goulash and gnocchi, so we did. They were excellent dishes.

When we got back to Budapest we explored the alley shops near our apartment.

Drew and Morgan arrived from Paris late afternoon. They and Beth shopped for dinner at the local grocery and fixed a nice meal of chicken and salad.
After dinner we headed back to the metro to go to the Széchenyi thermal baths. There are several baths in Budapest fed by hot water springs. Széchenyi is the largest with three outdoor pools and many indoor pools. There are also wet and dry saunas.

We enjoyed an hour soaking in the warm water and exploring the various pools. Beth said it was the most fun she’s had on this trip.
After the baths Morgan turned in for the night and the rest of us explored the local night life with a beer at a tasting room.
We returned to the apartment completely tuckered out and headed for a good night’s sleep.
