Today we toured four museums and a church. We’ve each  purchased a 3-day museum pass that gives us admission of lots of museums. We also purchased a one-day group pass for the metro and buses so we can get around the city as needed. In most art museums photography is not allowed, so we didn’t take many pictures today. One great feature of the museums is that they provide free audio guides to explain some of the exhibits.

On our way to the metro in the morning we passed this Citroen. We couldn’t resist taking pictures of it.

Our first museum stop was the Technik Museum featuring a large collection of boats, planes, trains & automobiles.

After seeing all the products of German engineering produced in the first half of the 20th century, I couldn’t help but wonder what their economy would have been had they invested in product development without going to war.

We had lunch in the picnic area of the museum then went to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The church was bombed out during WWII. They decided to not reconstruct it, but to keep and stabilize just the facade. The visible damage serves as a reminder of the destruction of war.

Next we went to the Gemaeldegalerie, that features Italian and Flemish, medieval, renaissance, and baroque art. We couldn’t take pictures inside and failed to take a picture of the building.

Our next museum was Berlinische Galerie featuring 20^th century German art. We did get a couple of pictures there.

Finally we went to the Jewish Museum of Berlin. The new part of the museum is a building that presents aspects of the holocaust through architecture and a few personal stories of victims. That part of the museum has to be experienced and is not easy to describe. The museum’s special exhibit presented photos and film of daily life Jerusalem.

Again, we got back to the apartment late, fixed dinner, and collapsed.
