We started our second day in Copenhagen with a quick check of email before walking to the Torvehallerne Market.

We had breakfast at Un Mercato at the market.

From the market we walked to Rosenborg Castle. The castle was built between 1606 and 1624. It was originally Christian IV’s country house. It was used as a royal residence until 1710. The tour through the castle is self-guided. The guide book explains each of the rooms concisely.

As we left the castle to go to Amalienborg Palace, one of the other tour guests, Rama, asked if she could walk with us to the palace.

Along the way we passed a Tesla car store. We took a picture since our son, Ross, plays in the Tesla String Quartet. (No relation to the car company.)

Amalienborg has four palaces arranged around a square. The palaces have been used by the current royal lineage since 1864. The museum is in a small section of one of the palaces.

Amalienborg - We were there.

From the Amalienborg we walked to Nyhavn canal where we sat and ate our picnic lunch.

After lunch we walked to Christiansborg Palace, which is now the seat of government. Parliament, the judiciary, and executive branches meet in the building. Castles and palaces have been built in this spot since 1167. The buildings were torn down, added to, and burned a couple of times. Each rebuilding was bigger and better.

The tour includes the subterranean excavation of the original foundations, the royal kitchen, the stables, and the reception rooms. We also went up in the tower and took pictures of the city.
