Every once in awhile we ride without a route in the GPS and get lost. That was the case today and prompted me to hum “Do you know the way to Kerrville?”
Before we got lost, John and Nikki took us to breakfast at one of their favorite restaurants, Old West Café, in Grapevine, TX. We traveled on a toll road, but they assured us that Texas has toll-by-plate and we’d get a bill in the mail. (We never did.)
After breakfast we tried to follow the directions John gave us and we found I-20 westbound without any trouble. The problem was did didn’t find the exit we were supposed to take and finally decided we needed to turn around when we got to Putnam, TX. We back-tracked some and then headed south to Fredericksburg, TX.
We were able to find parking on the street and headed out to explore the main downtown area. Friends in Florida said we had to stop at the bakery. We found the bakery, but we were too late by several months; it has closed. It was a hot day, so we had some frozen yogurt at one of those shops where you fill your cup, add your toppings, and pay by the ounce.
From Fredericksburg we headed south just a few miles to Kerrville and the Inn of the Hills. We were supposed to stay at the Super 8 because there were no rooms available when Beth made the reservation for the convention. A few days before we left, the hotel called and said two rooms were available and did we want one of them, Beth agreed and later found out we had been given the Honeymoon Suite! It had a living room. a bath with a Jacuzzi tub, and a bedroom on the second floor.
